We Are Legend

So have you ever thought about what it would be like if you were the last person living on earth? Other than freaky weird light sensitive blood suckers who only come out at night of course, but they don't quite count as 'people' - right?

Only Robert Neville has a different idea. Between barricading his home against the mutants, sending distress signals, and even squeezing in time to play fetch with his dog Sam, Neville is working hard to find the cure to the pandemic virus that wiped the planet clean of 90% of its inhabitants. The remaining population more closely resembles a group of vampires having a very bad hair/skin/breath day.

Would you do the same? Would you risk your life to try and save a group of barbarians who seem highly motivated to kill you at every turn?

I'd like to think I'd act as noble as our hero in I Am Legend. Of course the first few weeks of my isolation would be spent at the nearest Ferrari dealership and on the open road until all the 'need for speed' was worked out of me - but eventually I would make an attempt to help my enemies.

Why would I do this? Because my best Friend did. He moved into my sick and twisted society and brought a cure for my incurable disease. He gave me a soul transfusion that halted the spread of my infection and allows me to control it on a daily basis.

You're infected too, you know. The putrid mutation that lives at the center of your being is called sin. It was handed down to you through your parents, but it all started with the first man and woman on planet earth. Here's the way the diagnosis reads:

When Adam sinned, sin entered the world. Adam's sin brought death, so death spread to everyone, for everyone sinned (Romans 5:12).

Need a second opinion?

For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many... (Romans 5:15).

A third and fourth opinion?

For Adam's sin led to condemnation (Romans 5:16).

Yes, Adam's one sin brings condemnation for everyone (Romans 5:18).

The thing is, I think you already knew about your sin sickness, didn't you? It's the bold-faced lying, the cheating, the stealing, the language, the lust, the pride, the gossip, the rebellion, and all the other putrid and stench-filled behaviors and attitudes that reveal the spiritual mutants that we are-

Or used to be - as is my case. Let me give you the final medical report-

Now Adam is a symbol, a representation of Christ, who was yet to come. But there is a great difference between Adam's sin and God's gracious gift. For the sin of this one man, Adam, brought death to many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of forgiveness to many through this other man, Jesus Christ. And the result of God's gracious gift is very different from the result of that one man's sin. For Adam's sin led to condemnation, but God's free gift leads to our being made right with God, even though we are guilty of many sins. For the sin of this one man, Adam, caused death to rule over many. But even greater is God's wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ (Romans 5:14-17).

Have you received the cure yet? If you haven't - this is amazing news. You can move out of the shadow filled world you live in and step into an existence of light and life that you've never imagined possible. Trust Christ as your only hope of salvation for the cure to your soul sickness.

Have you received the cure but moved back into the shadows? When you trusted Christ, you were given the power to 'live in triumph over sin and death' through Jesus Christ. Let Him reverse the effects of the sin mutation in your life so you can go to the people in your world and 'light the darkness.'
